Kindergarten is one of the most important steps in your child's overall educational journey. At Lake Ridge Academy, our kindergarten program is designed to make this first school experience for your child one of positive growth, discovery, and enjoyment that initiates their lifetime love of learning.
Lake Ridge Academy students of all ages are known for their ability to be conceptual and critical thinkers, which are the core skills sought by leading colleges and the workforce. The development of this type of thought process begins in kindergarten through play-based learning, which is still at the heart of our kindergarten curriculum. Children are active learners who construct knowledge through physical, social, and cultural experiences, so we provide a broad range of instructional strategies and materials to engage students in the Lower School. Our kindergartners find the curriculum to be exciting and fun, but they are really gaining key concepts in mathematics, reading, writing, or the scientific method, while building conceptual and critical thinking skills.
Learning is a complex and interactive process and every child has a unique rate of development. Our environment honors students' interests, prior experiences, and individual needs.
The Kindergarten Experience
Kindergarten Application Process
We are currently offering a series of virtual events for prospective kindergarten families to attend including a kindergarten readiness presentation by our faculty. Individual in-person tours can also be arranged. Please complete an online inquiry form to register for any events or tours.
Apply for Kindergarten
We strongly recommend that kindergarten applicants be five years of age by September 30 of their kindergarten entrance year. Applications must be received prior to your scheduled Kindergarten screening date. All student applicatons are completed online and require your child's current preschool teacher to complete a Teacher Recommendation through the online application. If you are considering the need for financial support, a financial aid application should be submitted at the same time as the student application.
Applicants for kindergarten are screened in small groups. Screenings include time for parents to meet with the Lower School Director and Admission Officer while students are screened and observed by the kindergarten teachers and Lower School faculty. 2022 kindergarten screenings will occur on:
- Wednesday, January 26 at 9 a.m.
- Saturday, January 29 at 9 a.m.
- Wednesday, February 2 at 9 a.m.
- Saturday, February 5 at 9 a.m.
- Wednesday, April 6 at 9 a.m.
